Healer of the Heart eBook Linda Mooney

Although I read the entire book it became increasingly difficult to maintain focus and interest in the story. The characters weren’t particularly endearing, nor was there anything special about either of them. There were only a few times in the story that I was invested in what was happening and actually able to cheer the characters on, because it was quite difficult to relate to them on any level.
The romance is a bad case of cheesy, poorly written, insta-lust at best. The author made the fatal mistake of telling us the story instead of allowing the reader to be immersed and captivated by the world and experience the story for themselves. The world building was poorly done, and not a lot of effort seems to go in to making this strange society make sense and come alive. I felt as if I was seeing the story from a distant aerial view rather than living through the circumstances alongside the characters. There were so many questions left unanswered, though I was just so thrilled to be at the last page that I didn’t care to have the lose ends explained. The story had potential, but I believe the author did not take enough time to fully flesh out the characters personalities and motivations, the world, or the story line. It felt very rushed and towards the end I sensed the story tripping over itself through very clumsy prose in an attempt to reach the end. I do not recommend.

Healer of the Heart eBook Linda Mooney Reviews

The story seemed overly convoluted and lacking in depth and character development and did engage my attention for very long.
You can never go wrong with a Linda Mooney book! Although I wouldn't count this as one of my personal favorites in the whole of her work, it is wonderfully written and an intriguing story.
I like Linda Mooney as an author but found this book slow. I guess I was hoping for a sci fi or more extreme paranormal element so it wasn't to my taste. But she is a good writer and writes emotion well so that the reader is caught up in the drama. This is more historical romance. Not something I'd read again.
I loved this book. A healer is willing to give her life to a ruler of a different land. Unforeseen problems arise when the future king and the healer fall in love. This book has it all. Murder, mystery, love and adventure. Linda Mooney never disappoints. I have almost all of her sci-fi books. This one reads like a fairy tale and I absolutely loved it. Could not put it down and stayed up way too late.
Querl is next in line to rule a people known for their military prowess, though he considers himself more a scholar than a warrior. With political intrigue, border skirmishes, and multiple assassination attempts, Querl must reconcile his intellect and his sword. Mareesa is a healer and a member of the royal family of a land allied with Bothe. In order to avoid a cruel suitor she accepts the position of Healer to Querl's Uncle, the Dost of Bothe, after the current healer is assassinated. With the lives of the royal family in her hands she must save the people she has sworn to serve as well as herself.

I have to admit a fondness for Linda Mooney books. This is only the second of her books I've read with a fantasy theme to it. I adored the first, From Out of the Shadows, but I think I liked Healer of the Heart even more. Linda Mooney managed to capture the feel of a medieval fairytale world with every word she wrote and the world-building was fantastic. Another reviewer commented that the story was convoluted but I didn't find that true at all. There's a lot going on with two distinct story lines but I was never confused in the telling and both are resolved by the end of the book. With most of Linda Mooney's books I'm left wanting more, though. I want to revisit this world, learn more about the secondary characters I met, and just simply to find out what happens next! A good fantasy romance is difficult to find and for those who enjoy them don't pass up this story.
